Once again Massimo and I have filled a container of exciting finds in Tuscany! We scoured the antique markets, spent endless hours at an auction in Florence and, of course, visited our trusted antique merchants. Here is a sneak peek of items that will be arrring in June.

Sneak Peek of Antiques Arriving Soon!
Friday, April 1st, 2011Best Schiacciata in Tuscany!
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011While enroute from one supplier to another in Tuscany, we, of course, have to eat! On a sunny day in February, we stopped in a little borgo called Chiesanuova which Massimo had heard is famous for their Schiacciata – the Tuscan version of focaccia, or flatbread. This famous schiacciata is found in a non-descript bar that you would easily drive right by if not for the line of locals out the door! Next time you are lost in Tuscany, maybe you can find it!
Italian antiques heading to San Francisco
Sunday, May 9th, 2010Our antique dealers in Tuscany did not disappoint! Here are some of the items coming to San Francisco …
I can’t wait for my next trip to Italy!
Alla prossima,

Italian artisans
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010Artistic craftsmanship is alive and well in Tuscany!
While visiting the annual Artisan fair in Florence, we saw handcrafted items of all sorts from beautiful table linens, to handpainted ceramics to intricately carved wood frames. One artisan that caught our eye makes unique lamps and lampshades. Look for some of these handmade lampshades in the shop later this year.
Also at the Artisan fair we enjoyed seeing an exhibit of handpainted ceramics from Montelupo, a small Tuscan town of medieval origins. Montelupo has a long history of majolica production which began in the second half of the 13th century and continues today.
I love that we contribute in a small way to continuing this grand tradition by bringing ceramics from the Montelupo region to our shop in San Francisco.
As we walked the streets of Florence, we couldn’t resist snapping a few photos!
On Thursday, we visited the little town of Scarperia in the Mugello region of Tuscany. Scarperia is another medieval Tuscan town with an interesting history of craftsmanship. Scarperia is famous for its knife production which has continued since the 1400s. We picked up some knives, including some pocket knives, from our family-run supplier, Consigli.
While in Scarperia, we wandered the streets a bit . . .
Check back soon for photos of antiques that will be on our next container!
A presto,

Tuscany in Primavera . . .
Monday, April 26th, 2010While Massimo is in San Francisco, I am in Tuscany enjoying perfect springtime weather and finding exciting treasures for the shop! Luckily, my fearless Italy-obsessed mom is here with me – my most favorite buying partner! We just can’t wait to share the antique furniture & accessories that we have found so here are photos of a few items that will be on our next container to San Francisco…

There are a pair of these oversized lanterns. To be honest, I have not bought these, but if you like them, let me know!
Today mom and I walked the backstreets of Florence’s “oltrarno” visiting artisan workshops. First stop was the Locchi laboratory to pick up a few more beautiful and ingenious no-drip olive oil cruets – in this photo the artisans at Locchi are polishing a cruet.

Later in the day, on our way to another artisan shop, I just had to stop and take a photo of this incredible wisteria – we could smell its sweet perfume from across the street!
Also notable, today we picked up old as well as new Florentine prints – bellissime stampe!

Stay tuned for more posts this week – tomorrow an artisan fair, and then handmade knives, ceramics and more antique furniture!
Ciao,
Heather
